여러분이 사랑해 주시는 마르디엠버의 옷은

디자이너의 영감에서 시작하여 제작자의 손을 거쳐 완성됩니다.

엠버는 15년간 브랜드를 일구며

여러 공장과 긴 시간 협업해 왔어요.

이 글을 쓰는 지금도 소중한 사장님들

한 분 한 분의 얼굴이 떠오르는데요.

오늘은 엠버의 옷이 15년째 걸려있는

공장의 공장장님을 만나 뵙고 왔어요.

1.안녕하세요. 사장님! 소개 부탁드려요. 

사장님 : 안녕하세요. 저는 엠버 협력 공장을 운영하는 야수사장입니다.

옷을 만든 지 벌써 40년, 엠버 옷을 제작한 지는 15년이 넘었네요.

사모님: 안녕하세요. 저는 미녀사모입니다.

옷 제작부터 리오더, 수선건까지 총괄 담당하고 있습니다.

2.공장에 엠버 옷이 걸려있다는 소문을 듣고 찾아왔어요!

사장님 : 저는 공장 사무실 한켠에 옷 두벌을 항상 걸어놓고 있어요.

하나는 저희 공장에서 엠버와 함께 처음으로 작업한 원피스고,

또 하나는 저희가 만든 옷 중 가장 사랑을 많이 받았던 아우터예요.

특히 이 아우터는 개발 과정에서 연구하며

고생스럽게 만들었기 때문에 볼 때마다 보람차요.

이렇게 보고 있으니 어떤 과정을 거쳐서

만들었는지 여전히 생생하게 떠오르네요.

3.어떤 과정이 떠오르시는지 궁금한데요?

처음 디자이너가 아우터 샘플을 가져왔을 때 당황스러웠어요.

시장에 없던 디자인이었거든요.

어떻게 만들어야 할지 한참을 고민했어요.

일반적으로 옷의 주름을 잡을 때는 배수를 100%로 잡는데

엠버는 300%를 잡아야 했어요.

공정이 어려워 일반적으로는 시도하지 않는 일이었죠.

그런데다 셔링이 잡혀있으면서도 아이들이 입었을 때

편해야 한다고 잘 늘어나게 완성해야 했어요.

어떻게 만들어야 할지 고민하고

공정을 여러 번 바꾸는 시도를 거쳤죠.

한 번도 안 해본 걸 시도하니까 고생스러웠지만

그만큼 많은 사랑을 받았으니 뿌듯했어요.

어때요. 한 송이의 꽃 같지 않나요?

4.처음에 엠버에서 제작을 요청했을 때 많이 망설이셨다고 들었어요.

사모님 : 그렇죠. 제작을 요청해 주신

앰버 샘플들이 그 당시 트렌드랑 달랐어요.

트렌치코트에 셔링이 잡혀있었는데

지금은 그런 스타일이 많지만 당시에는 모험이었죠.

무엇보다 수량이 너무 적었습니다.

한 스타일 당 100장이 안됐어요. 그러면 저희는 적자거든요.

5.협업을 결심하기 쉽지 않으셨겠어요. 그런데 시작하기로 마음먹으셨어요?

사모님 : 미팅 과정에서 엠버를 이끌던

대표와 디자이너의 열정이 느껴졌어요.

만나서 대화해 보니 원하는 옷을 만들기 위해

장사라는 게 정말 쉽지 않은데

기업을 한 번 살려보겠다고 날염도 개발하

 안 해본 게 없을 정도로 대단했습니다.

그 점을 높이 샀고 그래서 지금까지 하고 있습니

그때 엠버로부터 첫 정산을 받은 봉투를

지금도 가지고 있어요.

봉투에 정성스레 편지를 써서 작업비를 받았는데

공장을 하면서

이렇게 준 사람이 처음이라 20년이 넘은 지금도 가지고 있어요.

감동이었죠.

6.그렇다면 사장님에게 있어 엠버는 어떤 브랜드인가요?

사장님 : 엠버는 저희 부부의 삶에 큰 영향을 주는 브랜드예요.

엠버를 처음 만났을 때부터 지금까지 말이죠.

엠버에서 열정을 가지고 임하는 만큼

저희도 옷을 제작하면서 열정과 정신력이 생기더라고요.

15년 전만 해도 아동복은 디자인만

예쁘면 된다는 인식이 팽배했어요.

그런데 엠버는 아이들이 입는 옷이기 때문에

그만큼 소재나 원단을

꼼꼼하게 살펴야 한다는 마인드였고

저희도 제작할 때 중요하게 생각하게 된 지점이죠.

7.마지막으로 엠버의 고객님들께 하고 싶은 말이 있으신가요?

사장님 : 저희 공장에는 20년째 함께하시는 제작사분들이 계세요.

옷 만드는 일에 숙련되셔서 손도 야무지고

작업 퀄리티도 보증이 되어있는 분들이시죠.

아이들이 입을 옷을 만드는 만큼 노하우를 담아

세심하게 살피며 만들고 있다고 말씀드리고 싶어요.

엠버에 대한 호기심이 커갈수록 엠버를 제작해주시는

여러 공장님들 한 분 한 분 뵙고 모두 인터뷰 하고 싶은 마음이 컸어요.

디자이너가 말하길 사장님들이 모두 애정을 담아 제작해주고 계신다고 해요.

Those Who Made Inspirations to Become Reality <The Interview with the Couple of the Factory Owners>

Mardi Amber’s clothes that you love start from the inspirations from the designer and ends with the hands of production. Creating the brand for 15 years, Amber has built a long relationship with the factory. Writing this, it reminds me of the precious people who part of it. Today, I met the couple of the factory owners that made Amber’s clothes for 15 years.

1.Hello. Please introduce yourself.

Owner: Hello. I am the factory owner that works with Amber. My name is Beast. It has been 40 years since I have made clothes and 15 years since I made Amber.

Owner’s Wife: Hello. I am Belle. I am in full charge of production, reorders, and repairs.

2.I have come hearing the news that you have hung Amber’s clothes in the factory!

Owner: At the corner of the office of the factory, I always hang two pieces of clothing. One is the first dress that we have worked together with Amber and the other is the outer that was most loved, that was created by us. Especially for the outer, it was very difficult to make, but makes us feel proud. It reminds me of how we had made the pieces.

3.What was the process like?

Owner: I was surprised at first when I received the sample of the designer. It was a design that was not in the market. I had to think a lot about how to make it. Amber needed a completely different strategy, so many factories would have refused. However, as it was insisted for the comfort to the children, we had to do it. There was many trails and errors in doing so. It was the first time, so it was hard, but we were very happy to hear that it was so loved. Isn’t it like a flower?

4.I heard that you had to think a lot about whether you should make Amber’s items or not.

Owner’s Wife: Yes. The samples that were given were far off from the trends of the market. There were shirrings on the trench coat. It can be seen a lot today, but back then, it was like a gamble. Moreover, the quantities that were requested was too small. One style was less than 100. That would be a minus for us.

5.Then it would have not been easy to work together. Why did you decide to be on board?

Owner’s Wife: I really felt the passion of the designer from the meeting. Speaking to her, I realized again that the fashion industry is not easy, but she said that she had invented prints and done many things to on go the business. I really respected that and I think that is why we are still working together. I still have the envelope of the first payment from Amber. There was a heartfelt letter written along with it. since 20 years of business, it is the first time that we have received something like that. It was really touching.

6.Then what is the brand Amber to you?

Owner: Amber is a brand that greatly inspires us. It was like that from the start until now. Seeing Amber’s passion, we were able to gain that mentality as well. Even 15 years ago, I thought that all that children’s wear needs is to be pretty, but that wasn’t so. Amber had said that as it is clothes for children, that the material and fabric must be detailed.

7.Are there any words that you would like to share to the customers of Amber?

Owner: We have people who have produced with us for 20 years. They are very qualified and have much experience in their field. I want to say that they have great know-hows for clothes for children and that they make it with much detail.

As there were more curiosity in Amber, I had the heart of wanting to meet with various owners of those who made Amber to be. The designers have said that all of the owners make Amber with great love. It made me to be even more proud! In the places that was not revealed, I thank everyone who takes part in making Amber!
